Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) has brought out this premium publication during the First Indian Forest Congress (IFC) 2011 with a view to provide a consolidated account of contributions made by the forestry sector to the nation over the years. It provides a comprehensive account of technologies and processes developed by ICFRE and its institutes spread across the country. The readers will also have an idea about history of scientific forestry in India, various functions of the forestry sector and achievements made by the Council.

The book begins with an introduction to forests and forestry in India followed by a brief history of scientific forestry in the country which has a rich legacy of more than a century.
